In a previous life I was a dedicated games console head.
\nI have owned many over the years starting with the humble #Commodore 64 which, for those of you that don’t know, had 64kb (kilobytes) of memory. To put that in context, EVERY phone available today, even the most basic of basic phones, has more memory than this.<\/p>\n
Back in those days, the jump in graphics through the console generations was very obvious.
\nA #NES provided faster load times and 8bit graphic. #SNES provided 16bit graphics, #PSX moves us into video and CD ROMs, providing greater sized games. #N64 was 64bit but cart based.
\n#PS2 and #Dreamcast provided 128bit processing with DVD sized disc (on PS2 anyway) which allowed for vast games and huge improvements in graphics. The #XBOX, #XBOX 360 and #PS3 again all produced graphics improvements and worlds nearly as large as our own…<\/p>\n
The one no one expected was the #Wii with its odd graphics and very involved interactivity. Nothing quite matched its simplicity…<\/p>\n
As the pre order for the #PS4 and #XBOX One begin to start do I think that they will be worth getting at launch?
\nI personally think not.<\/p>\n
I feel the latest hardware to be produced is an evaluation rather than a revolution. Until 4k televisions are the norm, the graphics are some what limited in their ability to really show a step change compared to previous gen.<\/p>\n
There will always be the odd title that shows a small improvement, but to be honest, there is only so much i care to see grass blades move, or individual rain drops falling.<\/p>\n
For me, unless you are going to get a 4k mega rig setup (and even then you need the games) I would personally wait for the prices to drop…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
