{"id":170,"date":"2013-12-23T10:33:32","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T10:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnkendrick.com\/blog\/?p=170"},"modified":"2015-11-24T20:55:46","modified_gmt":"2015-11-24T20:55:46","slug":"surface-microsofthelps-skydrive-windows-8-1-sync-bug-how-to-replicate-my-problem-with-syncing-tabs-in-ie11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/johnkendrick.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/surface-microsofthelps-skydrive-windows-8-1-sync-bug-how-to-replicate-my-problem-with-syncing-tabs-in-ie11\/","title":{"rendered":"@surface @microsofthelps : #Skydrive #Windows 8.1 Sync Bug &ndash; how to replicate my problem with syncing tabs in IE11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have an issue with my #Surface device (actually I have several, but this is specific to the backup service provided by SkyDrive)<\/p>\n<p>I think I have found a bug which is quite easy to replicate and near impossible to fix.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a backup of your device AND make sure that you have \u2018sync tabs\u2019 switched on (and active \/ running IE tabs!) and also make sure the sync is uploaded to the SkyDrive cloud.<\/li>\n<li>Reinstall Windows from a fresh (make sure you do a complete reinstall \u2013 i had to do this because of the Dec Firmware problem on the Surface Pro 2)<\/li>\n<li>Name the computer as part of the installation (but name it something <em>different<\/em> to the name before \u2013 I named mine SUR before and altered it to SURFACE on reinstall)<\/li>\n<li>Login \/ associate using the same Windows ID as the backup created<\/li>\n<li>It will ask you if you want to install using a previous backup \u2013 click yes and use the last backup.<\/li>\n<li>Let the backup install and get your PC back up and running<\/li>\n<li>When finished, go to Internet Explorer and look at the tabs section<\/li>\n<li>You will see the \u2018old\u2019 name of the PC showing the tabs that were backed up the last time a backup of the PC was taken.<\/li>\n<li>These tabs can <strong>NOT<\/strong> be removed or altered, they just sit there<\/li>\n<li>Go to SKYDRIVE devices and you will see that the \u2018old\u2019 name PC <strong>doesn\u2019t<\/strong> exist so it can\u2019t be removed<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can\u2019t get rid of the historic tab(s)<\/p>\n<p>I have attempted to rename the PC back to its old name but that didn\u2019t work either.<\/p>\n<p>I have resulted in completely removing my data from Microsoft, deleting any devices that were backed up in the hope that this will fix it.<\/p>\n<p>Another \u201cfeature\u201d brought to us by Microsoft\u2026<\/p>\n<p>@microsofthelps \u2013 would appreciate some further guidance on how I can fix this is my full delete option doesn\u2019t work.,.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have an issue with my #Surface device (actually I have several, but this is specific to the backup service provided by SkyDrive) I think I have found a bug which is quite easy to replicate and near impossible to fix.
