{"id":411,"date":"2014-10-08T10:04:12","date_gmt":"2014-10-08T10:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnkendrick.com\/blog\/?p=411"},"modified":"2014-10-08T10:04:12","modified_gmt":"2014-10-08T10:04:12","slug":"windows10-isnt-a-new-os-as-such-its-more-of-a-pr-campaign-to-woo-windows7-users-tags-microsoft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/johnkendrick.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/windows10-isnt-a-new-os-as-such-its-more-of-a-pr-campaign-to-woo-windows7-users-tags-microsoft\/","title":{"rendered":"#Windows10 isn&rsquo;t a new OS as such, it&rsquo;s more of a PR campaign to woo #Windows7 users&hellip; tags: #Microsoft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>#Windows10 has been released and I have downloaded it to one of my machines.&nbsp; I am a fairly heavy #Windows8 user.&nbsp; Started using it pretty early when it was just a lonely #Windows8 and have now moved to the #Windows8.1 version as well.<\/p>\n<p>What I have noticed with the #Windows10 OS is that #Microsoft have intentionally started this \u201cjourney\u201d to #Windows10 early and made sure that they target their main customer, the corporate world, as early as possible.&nbsp; What I have also noticed in the early version of #WIndows10 is that some of the bits that people who really use #Windows8 actually like are not actually available anymore.<\/p>\n<p>The IE browser which was solely designed for the App environment is missing and instead you get the normal desktop view.&nbsp; All Apps are now in their own windows in the desktop view and none of them operate in full screen unless you specifically tell the application to do so.&nbsp; This is something I am sure they will fix in a patch \/ release for #Windows10 but it does seem odd that it is present, given the functionality is core to #Windows8.<\/p>\n<p>This is where it dawned on me that #Microsoft are doing this on purpose.&nbsp; They want the #Windows7 people to feel comfortable with the new #Windows10 OS.&nbsp; To do this, they are showing them Apps but in a way that allows them to recognise it, rather than the way it was designed, which was for it to be its own full screen touch experience.&nbsp; I understand why they are doing that, given that #Windows8 and #Windows8.1 is still a fairly small market share, its seems a gamble worth taking.<\/p>\n<p>Its a shame they aren\u2019t being a bit more bold, but the softly softly approach could be the right one\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#Windows10 has been released and I have downloaded it to one of my machines.&nbsp; I am a fairly heavy #Windows8 user.&nbsp; Started using it pretty early when it was just a lonely #Windows8 and have now moved to the #Windows8.1 version as well.
