{"id":557,"date":"2016-01-05T11:15:32","date_gmt":"2016-01-05T11:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnkendrick.com\/blog\/?p=557"},"modified":"2016-01-05T11:19:10","modified_gmt":"2016-01-05T11:19:10","slug":"agile-doesnt-mean-you-dont-do-documentation-it-means-you-do-the-appropriate-documentation-scrum-kanban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/johnkendrick.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/agile-doesnt-mean-you-dont-do-documentation-it-means-you-do-the-appropriate-documentation-scrum-kanban\/","title":{"rendered":"#Agile doesn&rsquo;t mean you don&rsquo;t do #documentation, it means you do the appropriate documentation #SCRUM #KanBan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015 I worked on some solutions which were related to financial MI (Management Information) and MA Management Accounts.\u00a0 In both instances the product produced revolutionised the way in which the user community has achieved their business need or outcome.<\/p>\n<p>A recent review of the deliveries produced some very interesting feedback.\u00a0 It was commented that the two projects had very light documentation, that there wasn\u2019t much in the way of audit of what happened (caveat here is that they were referring to documentation audit, not activity audit which tools like TFS produce).<\/p>\n<p>Some might take this as an insult, however, I took this as a compliment.\u00a0 It was recognised that my delivery had produced very little documentation and had been very light on formal governance.\u00a0 A question that I should have asked the review team, which I had failed to think of at the time, was \u201cWhat artefacts(s) were considered to be missing and what value would it have brought in writing it?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I will hold my hand up and I hear by declare that we have had one example of a document that should have been written but wasn\u2019t.\u00a0 Out of a potential fifty+ documents we would potentially have had to have created (or were mandated to create), we produced maybe twenty percent.\u00a0 The one and only issue that manifested itself was related to a deployment process.\u00a0 It has since been resolved.<\/p>\n<p>The feedback was that the product was very strong, that the solution was excellent and quality high but the documentation light.\u00a0 I am more than happy for that feedback.\u00a0 It is the way that Agile should work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015 I worked on some solutions which were related to financial MI (Management Information) and MA Management Accounts.\u00a0 In both instances the product produced revolutionised the way in which the user community has achieved their business need or outcome.
