Reports are out that a new version of Windows 8 is coming and that its going to bring with it two new features.<\/p>\n
1) Boot directly to the desktop
\n2) Bring back the start menu previously seen in Windows 7 and lower.<\/p>\n
This is a huge U-turn from Microsoft. It\u00a0isn’t\u00a0that long ago that I read Microsoft were intentionally removing “start menu” code\u00a0in the preview versions of Windows 8. At the time hackers had managed to turn the old menu on. Circumventing the new “metro” style.<\/p>\n
Microsoft tried hard to get the code out, and seemed to get rid of enough to prevent the old menu style from being used…<\/p>\n
Fast forward several months and an app called Pokki has been downloaded 1.5 million times. What does Pokki do? It gives you back a start menu….<\/p>\n
As I said in one of my previous blogs, there is a lot with Windows 8 that makes sense. Also a lot that doesn’t. Until hardware catches up it will be a hard sell.<\/p>\n
With Windows 8 sales starting to falter, it seems Microsoft have had to make an intervention. 1.5 million downloads is a LOT of downloads.\u00a0 That sort of statistic is impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
