So, it would appear that the Surface Pro is beginning to, well, surface. I have seen one today and to be honest I wasn’t as impressed as I thought I would be. That made me think “Why?” – why didn’t I get all excited about the new tech that is out. Normally I can’t wait.
It was probably down to use – its starting to get silly with the number of options us consumers have available to use – Sony, Blackberry, Asus, Microsoft, Apple – all good companies producing good tech – all high quality as well – all coming out as quickly as we can buy them (in some cases not quick enough).
It now does seem a lot more of “what can use this for?” than, “what do I need this for?” – Apple are very good at reminding us how we never knew that we needed something for something that we never realised was a big problem for us.
The Surface Pro is still to convince me what it does – is it a replacement for my laptop – the power (and weight!) suggest that it is. Well, I am quite happy with my MBA running Windows 8 at the moment – so no reason to change there.
Is it a tablet? – well, in my view its a bit heavy and a bit over powered for just tablet use – so I am very happy with my VivoTab Smart to fill that gap – so no reason to change there.
Where does the PRO sit for me – not sure . . . If I hadn’t been so comfortable with the processing power of the Atom CloverTrail (yes, it quite happily runs Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition with Blend…) then I would have jumped onto the Pro bandwagon. As it is – I am not sure there is any more room (or money come to mention it) for that new shiny Surface Pro…
Atom all the way for me – well at the moment anyway.
