the #microsoft software estate is starting to make a bit more sense… but is very much becoming part of our lives – AND only makes sense for them!

Whether I like it or not the Microsoft trend is to get you hooked into their software using an MSA (Microsoft Account).

This at first wasn’t too bad when you had it on a phone, I first had to do it on the first incarnation of the Windows Phone 7.  Now it is everywhere.  You want Office on the cheap, you need an MSA, you want SkyDrive, you need an MSA, you want a Music account, XBOX account, Skype account, you need an MSA.  You get the idea…

It annoys me when they force you to log into a PC using an MSA.

They hook you into these services and then force, at least in Windows 8.1, to log into your PC using an MSA to continue to use them.

SkyDrive, which I have previously blogged about is an example.  The problem is that once you do log into your PC with that account, all of the apps and services will try to persist you to use that one account.

I personally have three – one for email, one I use for software purchases and one I used to use at University.

Microsoft are forcing me to consolidate, which makes sense, but only for them, not for me!!
