#Microsoft are publishing a #JanFIrmware update to fix the #SurfacePro2 #DecemberFirmware fiasco… I have it installed.

#Microsoft are slowing publishing a #firmware update for #Surface Pro 2 that got broken as part of their December #firmware.

I didn’t know this was being released and seems like that #Microsoft are dropping this one to users in a piecemeal fashion.

The firmware sits in your PC #UpdateAndRecovery in #Windows #8.1 as a 4.2Mb update to firmware.  It’s a pretty small update and takes very little time to install.  If you are still waiting for it to install after 10 mins then something has gone wrong (again!).

The firmware seems to have fixed the #SurfacePro2 #SleepIssue that impacted quite a lot of people before Christmas.  The last update was released at about the third weekend of December, this release seems to have followed the same pattern.

When I installed it I only installed the firmware patch, and didn’t install all the other stuff that was offered to me.  I wanted to make sure that I gave my #SurfacePro as much chance to recover as possible.

Last night I did a quick test and my #Surface went from 78% to 73% across eight hours.  This proves that something has changed as someone else on twitter did the same test last night and theirs went from approximately 70% down to approximately 30%.  They haven’t had the patch posted to them yet.

Reading this website http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/install-update-activate/pro-update-history you will notice the that nothing is mentioned for a January Firmware…

I will keep you posted on if the original charging issue comes back and if the Sleep functionality is really fixed…

(PS – if you do manage to get the firmware pushed out to you, you will need to check your Update and Recovery to make sure it has arrived – once installed, you will need to change back all the workaround your employed to try to continue to use your surface. I had to turn off a load of Hibernate stuff I turned on to stop the battery from being constantly flat)
