The #LONDONTOSOUTHEND in 2006 #BHF #L2S – old diary

The following check point was about another 10 miles after that. The second check point was through Essex and places like Stableford Abbots, Noak Hill, Navestock Side, Kelvedon Hatch, Doddinghurst, Mountnessing.

This bit of the journey was ok, it had some up hills but they also went down, which you make think is normal but its not for the rest of the journey, believe me…

During this section we did expect to meet up with one of my friends. They had promised to meet us on route and cheer us on. However, we had started earlier than we had intended and we were actually going quicker than we intended as well. Needless to say, when i phone him, OS this is, he was not awake. We were about an hour and a bit into the bike ride, so it was about, well it was before 9 am. He was not awake and was not going to meet us. The only mate who said they would come and cheer me on was not going to make it . . .

We made it to pit stop number two, at Mountnessing. At this point the weather was getting bit cooler. In fact it was getting cold.

It was a good point to stop, it was about 20 miles into the ride AND they had food!!

We had a piece of cake each and I had a ham and salad roll. The cake was top draw, very good indeed. I think that it had been home made. Not sure, but i think it was made by local Church.

We didn't stop for long, one reason we were keen to keep going and keep the time down, the other reason was that it was getting very cold, and we thought that if we kept going we would keep warm.

The ride so far had been ok. It was flat ish so far and we had enjoyed it – and we had motored, we'd been travelling a good rate, but not sure what it was at this point.

After section two of the bike ride we had a slight problem. We were cycling along when accident occurred…

You'll have to read the next blog post to find out who was hit by the car!!!
