#Windows10 isn’t a new OS as such, it’s more of a PR campaign to woo #Windows7 users… tags: #Microsoft

#Windows10 has been released and I have downloaded it to one of my machines.  I am a fairly heavy #Windows8 user.  Started using it pretty early when it was just a lonely #Windows8 and have now moved to the #Windows8.1 version as well.

What I have noticed with the #Windows10 OS is that #Microsoft have intentionally started this “journey” to #Windows10 early and made sure that they target their main customer, the corporate world, as early as possible.  What I have also noticed in the early version of #WIndows10 is that some of the bits that people who really use #Windows8 actually like are not actually available anymore.

The IE browser which was solely designed for the App environment is missing and instead you get the normal desktop view.  All Apps are now in their own windows in the desktop view and none of them operate in full screen unless you specifically tell the application to do so.  This is something I am sure they will fix in a patch / release for #Windows10 but it does seem odd that it is present, given the functionality is core to #Windows8.

This is where it dawned on me that #Microsoft are doing this on purpose.  They want the #Windows7 people to feel comfortable with the new #Windows10 OS.  To do this, they are showing them Apps but in a way that allows them to recognise it, rather than the way it was designed, which was for it to be its own full screen touch experience.  I understand why they are doing that, given that #Windows8 and #Windows8.1 is still a fairly small market share, its seems a gamble worth taking.

Its a shame they aren’t being a bit more bold, but the softly softly approach could be the right one…
