#OrgmentedReality and things like #GoogleGlasses will be the next HUGE thing… #Nintendo #Sony #Microsoft need to step up NOW!

We have had orgmented reality for some time now. We would hold our camera phone up whilst wandering round a city, or would be able to use a web camera on our console or PC to make little character appear on our coffee table / on our television…

The use of it thus far has been klunky and some what, well, rubbish. The advent of a mini monitor which is potable and a camera which follows where you are looking is going to be a HUGH step forward. At the moment the concept is focused in the wrong areas and until the wider community realise this then it will never take off properly.

The glasses with a camera built in give you the opportunity to overlay any visual or moving image. This can be as simple as the local weather appearing, or text news feed. It can also expand out to be the television programmes, video streaming or video call. The really exciting thing for me is the way is can revolutionise the way we play consoles. I am a hobby gamer and have been for many years, always more interested in the way we interact than the actual games though…

I imaging that I could clear a space on the floor, a dinning table or similar and then start to play a top down version of #MarioKart, or #Fifa. With the entire pitch and player superimposed onto my living room floor. I would be able to play with my friends and family who are also wearing this equipment on their heads. The people who are not wearing them would thing we were mad, but we would have #WestHam vs #Spurs playing right in our living room. We would be able to walk around the pitch, step on players accidently (or on purpose) and have a revolutionary way of playing, seeing and interacting with the game.

Move forward a few years and when things like the #Premiership have caught up and you would be able to apply the same principle with a live football match, having it actually in your living room.

Until people like #Nintendo, #sony and #Microsoft see the potential we will forever get naff widgets that we dont need – for this to truely be the next big thing we need someone to step up and really show whats possible.
