I have been using #Windows8 since it first came out. I spent the time learning the gestures and how to navigate around the OS. In the end, after a little while of training, I got used to it and found that the way that #Windows8 and #Windows8.1 were set up was actually quite good. It is fair to say that I did use the touch based hardware that it required – I never really used it without that and so can’t say I found the who interface a real problem.
For people who didn’t have the time or the energy to learn Windows 8, the whole experience was quite underwhelming. People who were used to the START button and appropriate menu found it hard to learn all the new gestures to get around the OS.
For me the light bulb moment came last night. Our house is slowly upgrading to Windows 10, last night it was the turn of the other Windows 8 tablet. The person in the house who owned that tablet didn’t ever really get on with Windows 8 (really didn’t have the time to invest in it) and so was rarely using the device because of that. I asked them if they wanted Windows 10 and their answer was (as expected) “Up to you, you do what’s best” – at this point I should let the readers of this know that anything with a plug is always my responsibility – this goes for direct and extended family – if there is ever a device with a problem or a decision to be made about anything with a plug, i normally get a call – I upgraded them
After a LOT of faffing (the upgrade on the Sony tablet was the worst so far) I managed to get it working and handed it over to the real owner.
They were INCREDIBLY impressed with Windows 10 and said (and I quote) “this is so much easier!”
People moving from Windows 7 will really appreciate Windows 10. But those few Power Users of Windows 8 will struggle…
